AutoDesk 3ds max 2022 includes new features, including improved versions for the Slice, Symmetry and Relax modifiers as well as improvements to the Smart Extrude tool.

Smart Extrude now has two new features. Extruded inwards, it’s now possible to cut, erase, and stitch opposite sides to create holes, similar to boolean subtract. If an extrusion from the outside completely penetrates another part of the grid, then a bridge is formed. This is similar to a Boolean bond.

Radial Slice is now available in the Slice Modifier. It is now possible to use a single modifier for flat cutting. Previously, it was necessary to stack three separate modifiers in order to achieve something comparable. A second novelty is the automatic covering of the sliced side. The symmetric modifiers also gain similar features. They can now use multiple planes for symmetry within a single moderator. Autodesk claims that it works well with scan data, and can improve the processing speed of the newly introduced Retopology Tools.
